You do know that Nicholus Flamel was a REAL person don't
you?
You can still go visit his house in France; it's been
converted to an Inn.
Quote: http://ip.pt/~ip211140/NFlamel-e.htm
Nicholas Flamel is one of the most famous alchemists of
the XVth (15th) century. Flamel was one of those rare
alchemists whose existence is known even in the smallest
details.
He was born about 1330, at a young age he settled down in
Paris as a Public Clerk, in a small hut next to the church
of St. Jacques de la Boucherie. This profession was very
lucrative in the middle ages, at a time when an enormous
mass of illiteracy existed in the populace, and not only
in the beggars, but also in the remaining population as
well.
Quote: http://www.alchemylab.com/flamel.htm
NicolasFlamel did not, of course, regard alchemy as
a mere vulgar search for the means of making
gold. For every exalted mind the finding of the
Philosopher's Stone was the finding of the
essential secret of Nature, the secret of her
unity and her laws, the possession of perfect
wisdom. Flamel dreamed of sharing in this
wisdom. His ideal was the highest that man
could attain. And he knew that it could be
realized through a book, for the secret of the
Philosopher's Stone had already been found
and transcribed in symbolic form.

Rowlings being aware of this, probably would not
have made Dumbledore and Flamel one and the same.
Books written by Flamel are still available today.
Type 'Nicholas Flamel' into any search engine and
you will come up with tons of hits.
