Great analysis. I haven't really thought about Hagrid dying, because I
love him so much. I guess that could easily fit in the story. Another
point in your favor is that Robbie Coltrane wasn't quite clear about how
movies he signed on for when Rosie O'Donnell asked him if he'd signed up
for all 7. His response was "sort of". But I don't know if he only
signed on for 2, like all the kids, or if Hagrid isn't around in later
books. I also remember reading something, can't remember if it was
Rowling, or a rumor, that there is a side to Hagrid that we haven't
seen. Perhaps he gets involved with the Giants and is killed during a
conflict with the Dark side. This is assuming that the Giants come to
the good side.
--- slight change of subject - teachers ---
If Hagrid doesn't die, but is away, it will happen at the beginning of
the book and he'll return later. We could see Fleur be a temp teacher
for the magical creatures until Hagrid's return in book 5.
If he does die, then he'll be in book 5 and die at the end. Either
way...I can see Fleur stepping in as the teacher in book 6, and also see
Charlie possibly work as the new Game Keeper. Ooooh...that would ruffle
some feathers...we know Charlie would be after Fleur...along with
everyone else! ;-)
I would love to see more of Charlie.

The guilt that Harry felt at the end of GoF really got me. I could
literally feel what he was feeling, and I can't imagine how he would
feel if Hagrid died. He's always been like Harry's protector. Took care
of bringing him to safety as a baby, taking care of getting him to
Hogwarts, and just an all around lovable soul and comfort to Harry. This
would truly impact Harry on a grand scale.
If Rowling is going to kill important people in Harry's life while he's
this young, she better give him a happy, long life in the end!
I don't think Dumbledore will die until book 7. I base this partly on
Harris's comment that he had to sign of for all 7 movies. Though, he
could die, and come back as a ghost, but I don't see it. D, himself, has
said that "to the organized mind, death is but the next great adventure"
(or something like that). Rowling has also said that the happiest of
people don't become ghosts. I don't see D coming back as a ghost. Once
he dies...he's moving on. Though he could come back as memories. I also
think D fits the "mentor" person in the book, and mentors usually
die/leave right when the hero needs them most (like Yoda with Luke). I
don't think this will happen until book 7, an he'll go just before Harry
meets his density...er...destiny. ;-)
