Ollivander says that Fawkes "gave" only two feathers, which
makes me wonders if phoenix feathers must be literally given by
the phoenix in question, and not simply dropped or plucked. In
Voldie's resurrection spell, the flesh had to be given willingly, the
blood unwillingly, and the bone unknowingly...the same might
apply to phoenix feathers, unicorn hairs and dragon heartstrings
respectively .
It would suit my sense of poetic justice if T.R. lost his first wand
about the time that Hagrid lost his. It doesn't sound as though
T.R. had ever seen Fawkes before he appears in the
Chamber.Perhaps there is some adventure yet to be told in
which Dumbledore acquired Fawkes and Fawkes gave two
feathers, one of which was made into the replacement Riddle
wand, that took place in the two years or so between Riddle's
construction of the Very Secret Diary and his disappearance.
It could be that Dumbledore, once he discovered that Riddle
and Voldie were the same, took Ollivander into his confidence
about Riddle, and asked Ollivander to let him know at once if
the second wand was purchased.
