If we put our heads together we could probably figure something
out... An addtional suggestion made by someone on the
Harry newsgroup is that Crouch Sr. is already dead by GoF
and that Junior (or Snape, in your scenario) is impersonating
*him* as well!  (Are there any scenes in which Crouch and
Snape appear together?)
