A sudden though and an excuse to go back to re-read PoA .. but...

Where does it say that the four Marauderers were all in Gryffindor...?

Is there an assumption that really close friendships are impossible 
across house lines ?

If they are not all in Gryffindor could it be that one is from each 
house...?
