I am assuming that both of you are referring to the numerous fanfics out 
there that have Ron as a Quidditch player or even captain (looks guilty).  To 
me it's pretty obvious, A)  I think his strategy with the chess board would 
definitely be an asset out on the pitch B)  He's got the build for it, 
especially as that of Keeper  and especially since we know the position is 
open C)  Yes, all his brother's seem to play the game, even Percy, and 
well...why can't it be a family trait, just like the red hair and freckles?

I'm all for Ron doing something on his own, and I do think he will, but 
either way, it does make for great reading....

As to whether or not this will be canon, it seems plausible to me (see above 
reasons), but only JKR knows.
