Like all major villains, Voldemort has probably managed to sublimate any
difficulty with the evil he's done by convincing himself that there are
and will be no consequences. Having great big life-size consequences
walking around saying nasty things to you, when you're right in the
middle of a struggle with this kid that you honestly thought you were
going to swat like a gnat, which instead produced this weird effect that
you don't understand, probably wacked him out just a bit. (ref: Macbeth
& the whole Banquo thing).
