I'm sure we don't have all the info we need on the Snape/Sirius
event. Surely putting another student in mortal danger should be
enough to get one expelled. Yet, this didn't happen. And we know
that Dumbledore knew about it. As Snape says to Dumbledore in Chap.
21 of PoA "Sirius Black showed he was capable of murder at the age of
sixteen. You haven't forgotten that he once tried to kill me?"

I keep thinking that something else was going on that night. By that
time, James, etal were Animagi and would keep Remus company on his
transformation nights. Well, then, why were they not with Remus on
this particular evening? If it was too early in the night for them
to slip out to the Shrieking Shack, why tell Snape about how to get
there and then run the risk of him also finding out they were illegal
Animagi?

My theory is that something or someone provoked Sirius to the point
where he reacted way too impulsively and told Snape how to get into
the tunnel. This would also help explain why Dumbledore didn't expel
Sirius. He may have felt that whatever set Sirius off was enough of
a mitigating factor that he could allow him to stay at school. And,
of course, this would just add to Snape's feelings that some rule-
breakers are allowed to get away with too much.

Marianne, who agrees with Devika that we need a MWPP Prequel.
