I wonder much the same about Sirius. Sirius has accomplished almost
nothing of what he set out to do--all those months living in the
Forest gone to waste. He's better off in a couple of important ways:
Harry, Lupin, and Dumbledore know he's innocent and know about the
danger from Peter. But Sirius is still in great danger from the MOM
and Peter/Voldemort, Harry is still in danger from Peter/Voldemort,
and Peter is probably even more dangerous than before for having been
flushed out of hiding. Sirius set out to rescue Harry and ended up
needing rescuing himself; he can't be feeling very successful right
now.

Within several weeks he's going to start hearing scary rumors about
Voldemort, Bertha's disappearance, Harry's scar hurting, all of which
seem to date back to Peter's escape . . . bad scene. I don't imagine
either he or Remus is feeling too good this summer.

"What's this?" he asked Aunt Petunia. Her lips tightened
as they always did if he dared to ask a question.
"Your new school uniform," she said.
Harry looked in the bowl again.
"Oh," he said, "I didn't realize it had to be so wet."
