I am really enjoying this thread, Angela.
I went to the local toy store to buy a baby present for a friends at-
that-time-yet-to-be-born child (who is now 21 months old). I had
just read an article in the newspaper about these books that kids all
over the U.S. and England were obsessed with. There were huge stacks
of SS covering most of the floor space in the tiny little toy store.
I thought, what the hell, lets see what all the fuss is about, since
the book is only 5 bucks.
I brought my stuff to the register and the woman who owns the toy
store starting raving about what a great book it was. I thought she
was a total fruitcake. I snuck the book home, hoping that no one
would see that I had bought a "childrens book." I read it that
night, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Incidently, I still have that copy of SS, and it now looks like it
has been thru a few wars (I like to read in the tub).
