Everyone keeps adding their reasons for getting hooked on HP.
I had commented to a friend that I should read one of these books, because
"any book in this day and age that has 8- to 12-year olds clamoring for
them"
had to be pretty impressive. My friend, an English teacher, offered her SS.
I was hooked before Harry and Hagrid got to Diagon Alley.

My 8 year old nephew was reading SS in school. I convinced my mother that
we had to buy the entire series in hardback for him for his birthday.
We did. As the official gift wrapper of said presents, I have to confess
that I read CS and PA in the four days before his birthday. Does this mean
I gave the kid "used" presents? My husband says yes, other HP fans say no.
The kicker is this, my nephew wouldn't lend me GF--even tho' he still had to
read the 2nd and 3rd books. So, I went back to the store for my own copy.
When my 17 year old complained last week that he's bored, I suggested he
start on the books. Converting people to HP fans wherever we go!
