I think that Narcissa's name is supposed to bring to mind narcisism(sp?). I know that Narcissus is a family of bulb flowers (daffodils belong to this family). The name of the flowers and the adjective meaning vain both come from mythology, the legend about Narcissus (spelling?). Anyway, I think the story was that this person was extremly vain and stared at their reflection all day and so was turned into a flower by the lake by the gods as punishment. Or maybe I have combined a couple different greek and latin myths here, its been a long time since highschool and I had latin!

Narcissa's name, first of all, tells us (at least it tells me) that
she is quite vain (narcissistic), as are the other two Malfoys we
know. I had no idea that it was a flower too.

Second, status is very important to the Malfoys, and Narcissa shows us
that by the look on her face when she is faced with the Weasleys and
Hermione. That "bad smell" look she wore; I've actually been looked
at like by people who are anti-semitic and are meeting me, knowing I
am Jewish, for the first time. She is very real and very believable
to me. I agree that she is a pureblood, but I doubt she had anything
to do with the DEs' activities later that night. She probably slept
peacefully in their luxury tent while all hell was breaking loose
around her.

Third, the Quidditch World Cup was obviously a very big deal and far
be it for the Malfoys to not be a part of something so important. I
see it as the equivalent to wealthy or famous people buying tickets
for the best seats at the World Series or the US Open here in the USA.
I can imagine Narcissa bragging to her friends about their splendid
seats and all the excitement that went on at the WC, but really, she
couldn't care less.
