Ghosts stemming from violent Deaths

I believe it has been brought up in many movies (the recent version of 
Casper, the Friendly Ghost comes to mind) where it is said that people turn 
to ghosts when they die because of "unfinished business".  Moaning Myrtle 
says that she made sure to become a ghost because she wanted to torture the 
girl who had previously making fun of her. The others, Nearly Headless Nick, 
Bloody Baron... had obvious reasons for becoming ghosts. Perhaps Proff. 
Binns found it his duty to continue teaching and therefore became a ghost.  
I personally think Peeves became a ghost so he could continue to wreak 
playful havoc on Hogwarts and to drive Filch mad :-)
