I have always compared the people of the Marauders generation to the
students at Hogwarts now and I shall now share my comparisons with
you! :-D....Hey! Running away is NOT allowed...C'mon my opinions
aren't *that* bad. I noticed quite a few similarities *BUT* a major
difference.....
James Potter ~ Harry Potter
This is probably the most obvious one. Harry and James look almost
exactly alike except that Harry has green eyes and a scar.
Similarities do not end there! They are (I'm just going to use
present tense even though James is dead, it makes it easier for me..)
both exceptionally good at Quidditch, James as a chaser and Harry as
a seeker and they have like enemies. Dumbledore himself said that the
rivalry between Snape and James was like that between Malfoy and
Harry. We also can safely say Harry acts like his father as they are
both smart and good wizards but tend to be troublemakers and Sirius
once said to Harry "You are truly your father's son".
Sirius Black ~ Ron Weasley
Physical descriptions certainly aren't similar but personality and
purpose are much the same. Ron and Sirus both strike me as immensley
loyal to theier best friends, Harry and James and stick up for them
against the rivals Draco and Severus. They each seem to hold a deeper
contempt for the rival than Harry and James.
Lily Evans ~ Ginny Weasley
I admit, the only similarity from Canon is physical appearance and
potential loves but I'm doing the best I can! Both Ginny and Lily
have red hair and fell for ceratin boys with untidy, black hair.
Hmm...and both of their names end in 'Y' ^_^..Sorry, couldn't resist
that one.
Severus Snape ~ Draco Malfoy
Both Draco and Severus seem to be the bad guy from Slytherin but I
believe they are both deeper than that. They are both rivals of a
Potter and jealous of their respected enemy's Quidditch talent. I
assume Severus acted like how Draco does now but he has reformed,
even if he *does* act mean to Harry. This leads me to believe that
this is perhaps a precedant for Draco's reformation and denoucement
of Lucius.
Remus Lupin ~ Hermione Granger
Both Remus and Hermione are the third party in the tight-knit
friendships. They are also both extremely intelligwnt (I assume Lupin
is judging by how he acts in PoA) and misunderstood. Lupin, of
course, is much more misunderstood for being a werewolf but Hermione
was at first too when no one saw her as more than a bossy, know-it-
all. They both have faced prejudice in he wizarding world; Remus for
being a werewolf and Hermione for being muggle-born. They both seem
to rise against the odds
Peter Pettigrew ~ Neville Longbottom
Ah, here it is at last; The Difference in the Generations. Peter
and Neville appear to be similar because they are both bumbling,
extremely unlucky and unskilled in magic and are both short, chubby
wizards. They also both follow the original group of friends, sort
of. *BUT*, we can't have history repeating itself, can we? What kind
of story would that make! The major difference is that Peter is a
complete coward and Neville is slowly being built up to show he has
courage. From SS Neville has proved time and again he has courage
however hard it is for him to muster it. He tried to take on both
Crabbe and Goyle when Ron was fighting with Draco, he stood up to the
Trio when he thought they were doing something wrong, he faced Snape
even if he *was* terrified, he took on a boggart before anyone
else....I do believe Neville will be an unlikely hero-type and will
prove to make a difference in the generation parallels.
And you have now reached the end of the message dear friends. If this
has been discussed before, apologies, I'm rather new to the list.
