Good point. Even if her father, Marvolo, disapproved of the 
relationship she still went through with it. That tells me either she 
1. didn't believe the Slytherin creed or 2. she had this relationship 
out of rebellion. Either way, I view her as a very tragic figure in 
the Potterverse.

That leads me to wonder if Marvolo knew about Tom Jr. and if he did 
was he so ashamed and hurt by his daughter that he, too, abandoned 
his grandson? From GoF, I got the impression that the Riddle 
grandparents did not know of the existence of Voldemort. But whatever 
the case is with Voldemort's family dynamics, I can say the good 
thing about the Dursley's is that they didn't abandon Harry.
