*mega-sigh*
Merely because MM was a Muggle-born witch does NOT mean she couldn't have
been in Slytherin. The Sorting Hat didn't mention HP's own pureblood status
at all, and although this is admittedly a very incomplete picture, it does
give us a clue. Draco Malfoy and Tom Riddle's views are NOT necessarily to
be trusted...(loud howls from the list-members: "You mean they'd---lie? Or
be mistaken? *WAIIIILL!!!* Our golden idol is tarnished!")
In fact, Myrtle's unhappiness could have been _because_ she was in
Slytherin, and the "Purebloods rule, Mudbloods drool" attitude was already
hardening in her day, albeit not as hard-wired as it seems to be in the case
of the talented Mr. Malfoy and his Goon Squad. The Sorting Hat could have
seen that she was determined to really do well for herself, and figured that
Slytherin House, which is known for its ambition, would be the best place
for her, not knowing or realizing that the atmosphere there was becoming
increasingly unfriendly to Muggle-born mages.
If this was the case, poor Myrtle's life could easily have been Hell on
earth.
