I believe that the Mirror of Erised shows what the viewer desires,
not the truth. Ron saw a picture of himself as Quidditch Captain and 
Head Boy: "I'm wearing the badge like Bill used to". That serves as 
evidence that Ron wants some glory, but not as canon proof that the 
Head Boy insignia in the 1997-98 school year (his seventh year) will 
still be a badge like it was in Bill's time (and in Percy's time, per 
PoA). Dumbledore COULD change it to a baldrick because what the Mirror 
shows doesn't have to be true.

My point is, Harry just has to see a bunch of people that he will 
think are his family. They don't even have to be representations of 
real people, let alone real people really named Potter (the text 
calls them 'the Potters' altho' some of them have green eyes 
like his MOTHER, who was an Evans), like alone real people named 
Potter who have to be already dead.
