Hmmm - I see Snape more as carefully keeping up appearances. Other
than the fact that we know he *used* to be a DE, there is no evidence
that he still harbors the same feelings as other DEs (like Lucius
Malfoy) on the pure-blood issue. I think he needs for the Slytherins
to *think* he feels the same way as they do; even if he does not.
There is also no evidence that Snape even made up that password
(someone else mentioned that the paintings did it themselves. We
don't even know if he ever even visits the Slytherin common room; he
may not even know the password at all.
I would call Snape an equal opportunity bigot - he seems to hate just
about everyone equally, whether pure-blooded or not. Sometimes I even
wonder if he really dislikes Draco too, and his favortism of Draco is
also just as act. Snape just mystifies me, but I definitely cannot
say that he is a "pure-bloodist at heart"; we just don't have enough
to go on to come to that conclusion.
