hello!

just thought i'd drop in and announce my
presence. i'm tara, 25, new here, blah blah
blah. as i referenced in the subject line, i
am actually an ex-anti-potter muggle. yeah, i
was
one of those who said "kids shouldn't read
stuff
dealing with the occult and witchcraft". i was
mainly basing my opinion on things that i had
read in Christian articles, interviews, etc.

what changed my mind? well, actually, it was
my
adoration for the little boy who played david
copperfield that got me into the books. when i
found out daniel radcliffe was going to play
harry, i did some searching on the net for
additional info regarding the HP cannon. i
didn't really understand most of what i was
reading since i had never read the books, so i
decided to hop over to amazon.com and buy a
used
copy. figured if it sucked, i wouldn't be
wasting that much money ;-) about a week later
it arrived, and i started reading it one night
when there was nothing on tv. it was a slow
start. i admit i didn't really start to get
into
it until harry got on the train. well, once i
finished it i knew i had to have the rest. and
only hardcover would do. a week later, i had
all
4 devoured.

another thing i want to mention here is that i
am
a Christian. raised a baptist and a practising
nazarene, i did have quite a few reservations
about reading these books. all i heard was
negative stuff about it all. but when i look
back on these books, i can honestly say there
are
lots of comparisons between harry's world and
my
Christian one. it's your basic battle between
good and evil, right and wrong. there are a
few
minor problems that MIGHT prevent me from
letting
my young kid read them if i had one, but in the
end it is up to each individual parent.

one of the other reasons i bought that first
book
is because i have a 6 year old neice. while
she
hasn't expressed real interest in harry, she
certainly knows who he is and will probably
want
to see the movie once she sees the trailers on
tv. since i knew her parents weren't going to
read the book, i figured i would. that way i
could tell them if i felt there were any real
problems with it. but i didn't see all the
horrible evils i had read about. i didn't see
any satan worshipping kids casting spells.

so anyway, that's my story. cheers!!
