I'm still not convinced about the "Voldemort Plans To Storm Hogwarts"
theory. I can't think of a worse time for Voldemort and his 30 Death
Eaters to mount an offensive. There are hundreds of wizards at the
Third Task, including Dumbledore, presumably a few MoM wizards,
Hogwarts Teachers, and "hundreds of students" (many of whom know how
to Stun and Disarm, including Durmstrang students versed in the Dark
Arts). The element of surprise will only take you so far. Also,
Voldemort has lots of supporters out there, like the Lestranges, who
need to be released from Azkaban, so he'd probably like to round up
all of his troops. Voldemort is stronger to launch sneak attacks to
undermine the other side than to attempt a frontal assault.
Also, I have trouble with any theory that requires Voldemort to be
even dumber. If Voldemort knows the cup is a portkey that could
transport Harry to Hogwarts, he could have simply stationed one DE to
guard it during the duel. He also wouldn't have shouted "Stand
aside! I will kill him! He is mine!" as Harry fled. His lines
would have been something like: "Darn it to heck! Why can't I ever
remember to do the obvious thing to prevent Harry from escaping."
Cindy (who is hoping that Voldemort will win a battle or two to keep
things interesting)
