Now we're back to my questions about whether Crouch was as loyal as
all that... If Voldemort wants Harry to pass misinformation (*what*
misinformation?? -- I can't find the post that addresses this) to
Dumbledore, then Crouch's killing Harry prevents him from passing that
misinfo.  If V is out to prove he's stronger than Harry, then Crouch
killing him himself destroys V's chance to make that point, and could
potentially lead to the DE's deserting V and flocking around Crouch.
So either way, I'm left wondering if Crouch was deliberately playing a
double-game.
