While I agree with you, Heidi, that Ron is not necessarily Good all
the way, I don't quite see him as turning evil either. I think it may
be more complicated than that. I like the idea of Scabbers having
influenced Ron, though. :-)

I see Ron mostly as weak. In JKR's wizarding world, weak is a bad
thing to be. Ron cannot fight the Imperius Curse (baaaaaad sign). He
is influenced by others - by believing werewolves and giants are
simply Bad without real evidence, and by always letting Draco get the
best of him. He feels lost at times in his own family, and would like
nothing more than to be Famous Ron Weasley the way his best friend is
Famous Harry Potter. He is, as of late, often dominated by feelings
of jealousy.

I am not saying that I don't like Ron, but I think the things I
mentioned above can be a dangerous combination. I can see Ron being
controlled by another. I can see Ron making poor decisions (just as
many of us worry Percy will do) and I can see Ron letting his temper
get the best of him in a situation where it is imperative for him to
keep his head. Any of these things could result in a Dark Wizard
finding out plenty of information about Harry or Hogwarts or
Dumbledore, which would make Voldemort's job easier. Will Ron regret
what he might do? Certainly. However, I can see him causing a great
deal of damage just the same, and not because he is Evil; it is
because he is weak.
