Oh, I don't really imagine LV killing Lucius, either, I was just 
idly speculating.  But I have to admit that at the climax of GoF, 
Voldemort very much did strike me as the Idiot Villain.  He's got 
Harry helpless, tied to the gravestone, all he has to go is 
mutter "Avada Kedavra," and all his problems are over.  So what does 
he do?  First he gloats, then he has harry untied, and *gives him 
his wand back*.  At that point I was banging my head against the 
book and yelling, "You stupid shmuck, do you have any idea how many 
Evil Overlord Rules are you breaking?"
