Very little is known about his personal life. He was an astronomer,
mathemetician and geographer. ... EDIT ....
BBoy_MN New Comment:
The question wasn't 'What did Ptolemy do that was so great?'; it was
'What did Ptolemy do that was so great that WE ACCEPT HIM AS A WIZARD
WITHOUT QUESTION?". In other words, why question the validity of
Flamel as a wizard and blindly accept the validity of Ptolemy.
Personally, it's easier for me to believe that Flamel was a wizard
than it is to believe that Ptolemy was.

Everything you say is 100% valid, but I was making a point about war
and the apparent lack of help from Flamel during the last Voldemort
war. The point was that during war there are LOTS of people sitting on
the sidelines doing nothing. Just trying to re-enforce the point that
it's not that unrealistic for a 650 man to not take an active part in
a war. For the most part, we don't send old men to fight our wars. Old
men stay home, drink beer, and complain about the government while
children go off to fight the wars. Again, everything you say is 100%
right, but my point was that, in any war, a majority of people do not
take an active part.
