This thought was inspired by the whole thread about Harry and why the
Dementors are so attracted to him. I like the idea that they had it
in for him from the beginning, as there is a lot of canon evidence to
support this. They zero right in on him each and every time they see
him, despite the fact that there are others around. I agree that
Neville and Ginny would seem to also be good candidates for the
Dementors and so would Lupin. Suck the happy memories out of the
three of them and their left with some pretty misterable stuff.
I think that the encounters between Harry and the Dementors (another
good band name :) ) all just ties right in to Dumbledore's trying to
convince Fudge to get rid of the Dementors. I really think something
will come of this in the end. In a lot of ways, Dumbledore is like
JKR's voice in the series. He seems to know what is going to happen,
which is why he does things like explain the Mirror of Erised to
Harry. I really don't think JKR would have had him say something to
Fudge about the Dementors unless something is going to come of it
later in the series.
Anyway, this thread has inspired me with a crazy new theory. What if
the Dursleys have purposely mistreated Harry all these years so that
he wouldn't have any happy memories for the Dementors to feed on?
Maybe Dumbledore has always known that the Dementors were after Harry
and if Harry had a lot of happy thoughts maybe it would be easier for
them to track him down. Okay, I know that sounds completely nuts but
I really think there must be a reason behind the Dursleys' atrocious
behavior. I have also been anxious to have a crazy theory of my own
to share with this group. :) The Dursleys are pretty despicable but
they don't strike me as sadists along the lines of Voldemort and
their malice is only directed towards Harry. Even Voldemort directs
his towards others, although Harry is his main focus.

of speculating wildly! I want my questions answered! I want book 5
right now!"
