"Well, I finally went back in PoA and found where the Dementor was performing

the Dementor's kiss on Harry. Which explains why I was confused--all that
time
travel business. Here we go: Can someone explain (or attempt to!) why he
was
doing so? Or speculate?

Second question, how did Harry get away from the dementor to get back to
Hogwarts to wake up in the Hospital wing to go back in time to save himself
and
the others? "

I am sure I am going to be one of many responding, but here goes. First, the
reason the dementors were going to give Harry the kiss was discussed in the
hosptal wing by Minister of Magic Cornelius Fudge when he opined that they
"went too far" or something of that kind, (I don't have the book to quote
directly).

Second question, about Harry's time travel. After time traveled Harry sent
the Patronis to defeat the dementors, he saw Snape come out of his spell,
and magically arrange the injured on stretchers which moved them to the
hospital, where Harry wakes up to hear the discussion in the hallway.

It is after Dumbledore makes everyone leave the hospital wing, and with Ron
still unconscious, that he suggests that Hermione take Harry back in time
before all the tragedies "I think three turns ought to do it" - and perhaps
save more than one life (meaning Sirius and, of course, Buckbeak). That is
why Harry sees himself across the lake and thinks it is his father (something
that time travelers are warned against).

Hope this clears it up a bit.
