Interesting idea--I like it.  Another concept I'd like to throw into 
the ring:

I think the situation may be similar to that in David Eddings' 
Belgariad and Mallorian series.  In those books, destiny plays an 
important part, telling us who the major players and events are in 
the big good-and-evil struggle.  But in the end, the whole thing 
comes down to the choice of the individual.
Likewise, I think a strong sense of predestination surrounds Harry--
Voldemort wanted the kid dead before he could even walk, for cryin' 
out loud.  But I think Dumbledore's assertions of individual choice 
will prove very true in the final chapters.
