>>I'm not sure where you get this from. Hagrid has never shown signs
of competetiveness, jealousy of other people's success, exessive
vanity, or any other qualities that lead to one-upmanship. Nor do I
remember him expressing any annoyance with Grubbly-Plank (I don't
have a copy of GoF with me, so correct me if I'm wrong); and Hagrid's
not exactly one to be subtle and understated with his emotional
responses. <Snip> He certainly doesn't engage in sneaky
underhanded maneuvers to make himself appear to superior to the person
he's annoyed with; Hagrid isn't clever enough for such maneuvers.>>

Yes, and we're talking about *Hagrid* here, not that Mean Ugly
Schnook Snape...that's something he would do! =P

Anyways, thank you Marina for making that great point! *claps* I was
in the midst of typing up a reply to make that exact same point,
though I think you worded it much better.

Jenny:
>>Do
you really think it is in Hagrid's 'nature' to be attracted to big,
hairy and dangerous beasts? >>

Well, first off, did Darrin mean nature as in his character or his
natural instincts(so to speak)? I figured he meant his character, as
Hagrid's normal definition of an "interestin' creature" is something
that...well, I think you worded it rather well: big, hairy and
dangerous. I see a baby unicorn as being neither of those. So I
think it *was* rather againsnt Hagrid's nature to go foolin with baby
unicorns. I mean, how boring! =P

Jenny:
>>It also proved to me that he
is *not* a good teacher because he has the knowledge but doesn't use
it.>>

He used his knowledge in the unicorn lesson, the hippogriff lesson,
the snuffler lesson, etc. If he doesn't know everything there is to
know about an animal, he figures it out, as he did with the skrewts
and flobberworms: that way it's a learning experience for the whole
class at the same time. And I still stand by the fact that Hagrid
just has confidence issues, but I also think he's improved alot since
he was first appointed- which is why I'm hoping OotP will include
some good CoMC lessons and teach us all a thing or two about magical
creatures.

just think again!)
