So, maybe I'm not out in left field!  I really like to think that Fawkes was
summoned, that way Harry wasn't alone.  In the case of brother wands, surely
there are not many occasions when the wands would be forced to do battle.
And more than likely one of the wands belongs to a "good guy" and the other
to a "bad guy."  And if Fawkes was summoned by the Priori Incantatem effect,
it would be his "job" to sing, with the power of the song of the Phoenix
described as:

"Phoenix song is magical.  It is reputed to increase the courage of the pure
of heart and to strike fear into the hearts of the impure."

That quote comes from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Well, there is the courage to the pure of heart part (as quoted above).  I
think we will learn a lot more about the Phoenix in book 5, *if* it ever
arrives!
