There is even canon to support this theory! Remember Ollivander? He said
"After all, He Who Must Not Be Named did great things. Terrible, yes, but
great." I think Rowling is doing a good job of showing her readers that all
of her characters are more or less grey, rather than pure white and pure
black. Aftter all, even Dumbledore can be found faulty in his judgement to
let Harry run into dangerous situations. Yes, we tend to find excuses for
him (it's best for Harry in the end after all), but it still *can* be looked
at as a bad thing.
