Hello all,
I suddenly had a thought (hold the applause please) while reading this thread
and have decided to venture out of lurkdom to unveil it. I don't really
believe it would really happen, it's just wild and crazy speculation. Also
please take the following with the basic "I hope this hasn't been discussed
before" preemptive apology.

Anyway, although several women have been offered up by you listies for the
position of the new female DADA professor, including Arabella/Mrs. Figg,
Fleur and even Neville's gran, I have yet to see anyone suggest a witch whom
we have had plenty of canonical exposure to and who obviously has at least a
fair amount of magical talent. Can anyone guess who I'm thinking of? Rita
Skeeter!

No wait! Come back and here me out! Stop throwing things at me long enough
to listen for a minute. *deep breath* OK.

Now, what do we know are the qualifications for teaching the DADA class?
Basically, AFAIK at least, there aren't any! I mean, none of the former
teachers really had that much *teaching* experience that we know of right?

1. Quirrell- ok, he *was* a teacher, but he was also evil, so scratch him.
Also, he was a quivering coward the whole year, and even though he was
acting, how good do you think his teaching was during that time if he was
afraid of his own shadow?

2. Lockhart- I don't think I have to explain his qualifications (or lack
there of) but I will anyway...he was an author for pete's sake! and one who
stole his stories and lied. He actually knew nothing about DADA, or for that
matter, anything useful except for memory charms, and the other teachers knew
it and he still got hired.

3. Lupin- Now finally here's a teacher who knows his stuff! He was the best
teacher they had IMHO but that's not the point of this post. Looking at
qualifications, was he a teacher before? I can't remember if the letters on
his suitcase said Professor R. Lupin, or just R. Lupin and I don't really
want to get up and check right now, I'm too lazy. But even if they did say
Professor, I seem to remember a discussion not too too long ago about whether
or not that was newly added due to the condition of the peeling letters. So,
we don't know if he was a teacher before and.......he was a werewolf. Now
don't get me wrong, I like him and don't hold it against him, but I don''t
think its a good addition to a resume.

4. Moody- Well, CrouchMoody acted all right, but once again we have the evil
teacher thing going so I think we should scratch him. But even if the real
Moody had been teaching, what are his credentials? Granted he was an Auror
and has a vast knowledge of the dark arts, but everyone seems to think that
he's a little off his rocker, and slightly paranoid. Do you call sticking a
grizzled old crazy wizard, who may or may not be able to see through anything
he wants, in a school to teach magical kids a good idea? Personally, I
don't.

5. Snape- Although only a fill in, he didn't really know his facts all too
well, as Hermione pointed out, and he taught in his usual manner. I leave it
up to you to decide whether or not thats a good thing. Im not dumb enough to
get sucked into that discussion.

So, as we can see, there really aren't a set of requirements for being a
Hogwarts teacher, at least not DADA. So Rita could fit the bill, and here's
why:
       - she has been pretty much banned from writing for at least a year,
and she needs a job
       - she has mastered the animagus transformation, which is supposed to
be difficult to do, so she has at least sufficient magical talent.
       - she is certainly unaffraid to stand up to anyone and probably won't
take any crap from students
       - she was rather close to all the participants during the tasks in the
tournament and she stayed safe, even in beetle form.

Ok, that last one is a stretch, but I think there's at least some things that
could work in favor of Rita becoming a teacher. I dont really believe it will
happen, but someone might. Anyone care to agree and offer new evidence for
support, or do you prefer to ruthlessly tear my pitiful idea apart? Either
way, hope to hear some replies, and if there was a thread about this awhile
back, please point me in the right direction!

Cheerio!
