Way off the wall - probably not a chance, but I've often wondered how 
it is that Harry turned out so...good.  He's basically an abused 
child.  What if the few times Mrs. Figg has Harry, those who care for 
him come and visit.  When they leave, a simple memory spell is used.  
This way, he still lives and is protected by the Dursley's, yet has 
those buffering times where he is loved and cared for.
