Snape and DADA

I haven't posted in a while, and perhaps this topic and thought have 
been covered, but is it possible that the reason Snape doesn't get 
the DADA position is simply because he is so very good at potions?  
He might be the top potions person in the world.  Also, isn't the 
DADA position just a little redundant--since the DA are flourishing, 
it seems.  It seems there really isn't a clear way to defend against 
them.  The only defense we have seen is when Harry began to defeat 
the Imperius curse with pure will power.  Okay, how do you teach pure 
will power?
