If the public freaked out when it was discovered that Hagard was 1/2 giant 
and that Lupin was a were-wolf, just imagine the outrage when when it's 
found out that a (former) Deatheater has been teaching potions at Hogwarts!  
Was Skeeter (as a bug) in the room when Snape showed his Death-mark tatoo?  
I know Hermonie can blackmail Skeeter into not telling (since Skeeter in an 
unregistered Animagi) but still...if word leaks out, then Snape might not 
have any job at all.
