I guess technically Dumbledore was compelled to give them the hint,
because if he hadn't, then they would be dead, because they wouldn't
have thought to use Buckbeak. But then, maybe they would have... I
don't know. Or! Maybe secretly, Dumbledore is a fourth-dimensional
being who would thus be unfazed by time travel and be able to "see the
future" in all the many paths it may take (I think that would be really
cool, actually). Therefore he is infinitely wise because he can see the
consequences of people's actions... or something. :) Sorry if that's
getting toward the rambly side of things...
