Keen observation. When JKR wrote book 1, she had no idea that HP would
become what it has. But she did know in her head how everything would pan
out. I'm quite sure Harry will live beyond book 7, but not too sure about
his friends. I'm also confidant that while reading book 7, we will not be
confidant he will live, because it will be so intense.
