To which I (Ed) reply:

I wonder if this has been discussed before. My own silly theory is that
Dumbledore can become a . . . (get this) . . . a fly!!?!

As weird as that sounds, that is consistent with Dumbledore's telling Harry
early on in the series that he, Dumbledore, doesn't need an invisibility
cloak to be unnoticed ("if I could be a fly on the wall"). What got me
thinking about it is the scene in PoA when Harry's about to take his
Divination exam. Harry's the last one to take his exam -- and I think Ron's
second to last. Just after Ron ascends to the classroom, Harry's 'alone'
and one of his observations is the buzzing of a fly. I got to wondering
about that arguably throw-away phrase -- but thought it was a bit odd to
have there for no reason.

Whether or not the fly was Dumbledore, I wondered if the fly had anything to
do with inducing the trance Trelawney was in when she gave her unconscious
prediction??

Counting against this, for me, is lovely Rita (mo)Skeeter. The device of
commenting on an insect that later turned out to be an animagus was used in
GoF.

That's just been a silly little thought I've had.
