Good question. I was wondering the same thing ;)

If not the Weasleys, why not Hermione Granger as back up. I don't 
know how well respected the Weasley family will be, but since 
Hermione is a model student and well respected, why not give it to 
her? Then Hemione could give it all to the Weasleys, since they're 
Harry's second family.

You know they look like wizard wands but when you pick them up

Why not bake him a cake with a nail file or his wand inside? It would 
be majorly cliche, but still interesting nevertheless. He'd not only 
get food, but also his wand!
