I've actually been contemplating a theory of mine involving
Evil!Ginny, in a way, for a while. Originally, I was thinking about
how Tom was controlling Ginny. My theory is that writing in the diary
establishes a link between you and the diary, and that once Ginny had
written in the diary enough to establish a strong link, Tom was
transferring his life force over to her, and taking her over for a
time, placing *her* life force in the diary, and that the stronger
the link got, the longer he could do this for.
What happened in the chamber, according to this theory, is that
Tom took over Ginny, and played dead while projecting an image of
himself to distract Harry. (Which, unfortunately, is the weakest
part of the theory, since no spells that could produce that effect
come to mind offhand).
Then Harry stabs the diary, Tom makes his image writhe around and then
banishes it, while *Ginnys* life force, stored in the diary, dies
with its destruction. Tom then pretends to be Ginny. Given that she's
been writing to him all term, any mistakes can easily be passed off
as aftereffects of everything she's been through.
Now one of the Weasley's, Tom would then be biding his time, plotting
behind the scenes. One image that gave me the shivers after coming
up with this theory was the picture in PoA: "Right in the middle of
the picture was Ron, tall and gangling, with his pet rat, Scabbers, on
his shoulder and his arm around his little sister, Ginny.". Ron, with
Peter Pettigrew on his shoulder, and his arm around Voldemort...
Personally, I'm hoping this theory isn't true, and I do tend to think
the length of time that has past would tend to make it less likely.
Still, since we were on the subject, I thought I'd throw it out
there...
