Very true. I think that at this point Percy's intentions and
loyalties are good, but I'm worried that his ambition will blind him -
at least for a while.
Example: In COS, he is found in Diagon Alley reading the
book "Prefects Who Gained Power" - this after the famous quote from
Quirrel "There is no good or evil - only power and those too weak to
seek it." (sorry I have no books with me to give chapter references
right now)
Although Percy shows in actions at the end of the second task his
care/love for his brother, there are many other references throughout
GoF that illustrate his ambition. There are:
His actions toward Crouch and how he is blinded by his superior's
ideas. His defense of Crouch with respect to Winky.
Ron's comments about how he fears Percy will turn in the twins if
they are doing something illegal. (ok I went and got my book now)
Ch 27 GOF very end:
"Percy would never throw any of his family to the dementors," said
Hermione severely.
"I don't know," said Ron. "If he thought we were standing in the way
of his career...Percy's really ambitious, you know..."
