I have noted the same tendency, and even if it is because women 
identify with Hermione, why make her into Superwoman?  I identify 
strongly with Hermione *because* of her rough edges as well as some 
of her more likeable characteristics.  I know I'm not the only 
recovering know-it-all on this list who has a soft spot for soul-
sister Hermione.
