Harry's pride has proven useful in resisting Imperius curse.

that's ridiculous - I think not.

Pride was one reason why he didn't hide behind the gravestone; 
deciding to face his death standing and fighting rather than hiding 
like a child.

Hermione has her own pride as well - she just can't admit she's wrong 
(like with SPEW or her opinion with Divination), she goes to check 
things in library without giving Harry&Ron so much as a hint (so that 
they don't know if she fails...)
It also keeps her studying and making good grades - though 
occasionally putting her in danger or hurting some one(like house-
elves).
