I can't see HOW he could NOT. I mean, how could he have escaped
horrors when he's 150 years old, he was active in the anti-Voldemort
effort during the Bad Years, he is famed for having defeated a
previous Dark Wizard, and he was also there for all the Muggle wars
of the twentieth century?
When Harry asked Dumbledore what he saw in the Mirror of Erised and
Dumbledore said he saw himself getting socks as a Christmas present,
many people think Dumbledore was lying or that the socks are code for
something about House Elves, but I think he was telling the literal
but not complete truth: I think he saw himself with the horrible ugly
hand-knitted socks that his late beloved wife or late beloved mother
used to make for him for every Christmas, and it was not the socks he
wanted, but their maker. Based on only that flimiest shred of
evidence, I wonder if the reason he went after Grindelwald was that
his wife had been killed by Grindelwald?
