I am not sure but that Hogwarts "runs itself" to some extent--over
the years amassing the spelles and magical necessities to take care
of what needs to be taken of--LOL. However, my concern with Filch is
that he is convinced he doesn't have powers--maybe he does--there
have been latent wizards before--or late developing wizards. Even
more than his regrets at being a "squib" and jealousy of those who do
give evidence of magical prowess, is the feeling I get about Filch
having a very unhappy emotional life. I wonder (often) if Mrs.
Norris is more than a cat or kneazle--maybe she was a love interest
who had to transfigure herself into a cat for protection against
Deatheaters and stayed too long in that form. Now, she can't return
to human form--and Filch has taken over her care and is hoping
Dumbledore and/or McGonagall can figure out a way to restore her. I
just remember how upset Filch was when he thought Mrs. Norris had
been killed in COS! Seemed a bit excessive, although I have had many
cats and always cry when one dies. Opal Dragonfly
