Just because someone at the Lexicon thinks its a name of a village and
reports that it is without any conclusive evidence does not make it so.
Godric's Hollow is just as likely to be a home as it is to be a
town/village. Just due to the fact Godric's is part of the name and its in
Muggle Central I think its a home. But then I think Godric would have been a
very Muggle friendly wizzard so who knows...J.K.Rowling does, and thats all
(for now).

I myself always assumed Godric's Hollow, well was a hollow, perhaps part of
a suburb or hamlet. If the potters named their house Godric's Hollow, then
why would McGonnagal call it that? Wouldn't she just say the POtter's house?
I mean I have named my car before, but other ppl still just call it my car.
To me this, like so many of these debates, can be reduced to the old adage
they teach in law school. "If you hear hoofsteps, it's probly not a zebra."
