I'm an amateur genealogist and unless Tom Riddle was born well over 1000
years ago he couldn't be Slytherin's "ancestor". An ancestor is a direct
line blood relative that goes back through your line (parents, grandparents,
great grandparents ect) while a descendent goes from your line forward.
(children, grandchildren ect). I suspect that she simply got the words mixed
up and it wasn't caught in editing.
Or maybe Tom had access to an industrial strength time turner. He's his own
grandfather (geneaology humor >:-))

It's already been established in interview that it was supposed to be heir, or that it's supposed to say that Slytherin is Tom Riddle's ancestor. Sorry for the short post, but we've already talked about this.
