odds seem against Draco ever turning out well...I wouldn't say I
really feel too sorry for him, but I really do like to try to analyze
people(and characters in books!)...Something I find interesting was
that when Draco first met Harry he seemed to have been trying to be a
friend to Harry in his very crude way. But Harry rejected Draco
(rightly) when Draco insulted Ron and his family! Draco doesn't have
anyone who really likes him, and he seems to have been raised to
believe that being liked isn't important...Lucius is a horrible
parent, and I assume that Narcissa is just as bad. A moment I keep
coming back to was from the CoS movie, although I realize that things
in the movies aren't necessarily "canonical". When Draco falls off
his broom during the quidditch game, Lucius looks humiliated and not
at all concerned that his son might have been hurt. That look on
Lucius' face seems to sum up this father/son relationship completely
to me!>>>

The Sergeant Majorette says:

The movie version of the senior Malfoy vs. Weasley contretemps shows
the same thing; one of the DVD 'extras' shows the Borgin and Burkes
scene as another example of frigid parenting.

In fact, Draco is the only character in canon who can give Harry a
run for his money in the matter of psychological deprivation in
childhood. (Even Neville knows his grandmother loves him, scary
though she may be.)

I can't see him 'redeemed', but I can see him making a 'good' choice
just to destroy his father.

A three-dimensional Draco is such a great counterpoint to Harry. I
hope JKR puts the guts back into him.
