Trust is a funny word. I think JK intends for us to accept that Snape is on the right side (even Hermione buys into this based on DD's conviction). Of course, this does not change Snape's disposition, or dislike of James Potter and the son who looks so very much like him. Some people just can't let go of a grudge. Talking about trust, I think Snape's been put in serious danger if he's playing the insider with the DE's. At the end of GoF, Voldy as much as says he knows which past DE's can be trusted, and it seems he specifically references Snape (not by name, though). I think Snape is being used by Voldy. Kind of like when the Godfather sent Lucca Brazzi to spy on the other family . . . in the end, it didn't work.

Dumbledore is an overly optimistic judge of character. He always gives
people the benefit of the doubt. It means that he gives jobs to
incompetents like Lockhart, and that he assigns Snape to teach Harry
Occulumency, when its really not a good idea.
So, if Dumbledore 'trusts Snape', yet does not trust him enough to let
him teach DADA, and also realises he was wrong to trust Snape to teach
Occulumency to Harry too, WHEN is he going to figure out that Snape is
not actually to be trusted AT ALL?
Snape is unable to overcome his hatred for the Potters. I don't think
that hatred of any kind is whats going to help Voldemort accept the
peace of love, mortality and death.
