Harry and Death

I tried to skim the messages about OoP to make sure this had not 
been mentioned, but if it has been, I apologize.

My take on Harry being able to see, for the first time, the 
thestrals, meant that Cedric Diggory's death was the only death he 
had ever seen. 

This brings up several points (most of them minor). For example, 
apparently that means the students don't go back to the Hogwarts 
Express on those carriages, or else Harry would have seen the 
thestrals at the end of last school year. 

Second, it means neither of Harry's parents died in his field of 
vision. This may not turn out to be too terribly important; it just 
contradicted the vision I (and I think most others) have of Lily 
leaning over Harry, shielding him...

Of course, there could be many explanations... Maybe the death has 
to be in your conscious memory... or maybe Harry was just asleep 
when Lily died. Of course, it would be hard to explain the memories 
that the dementors inspire....

Anyway, just thought this was interesting.
