Hi, all! Well I don't remember exactly which book, but as far as I
can tell, once Hagrid told Harry that James and Lilly were "in
Gryffindor, of course, jus' like yah parents, Harry". It may have
been in PS/SS, but I really don't remember. Also Lupin (who was in
the same house as James)has an affinity with all the Gryffindors, and
he clearly says in PoA that he wants Gryffindor to win the Quidditch,
he wouldn't support anything other than his house, wouldn't he? And
again, all the rivalry between Griffindor and Slytherin would explain
why James hated Snape, "just like yourself and Mr Malfoy, Harry" said
DD.
About James being an arrogant school bully, well, Harry is different
from James, who was young and care free, and Harry has so many more
burdens, also he could be more like his mother in personality,
therefore "having her eyes" (windows to the soul?). After James gets
older he will became an Order member, mature and be able to work with
Snape in the Order, just like Sirius and Lupin were doing now.
Cheers, Nineve.
